Ubun2USB is an open source project that provides a collection of small utilities for installing the popular and powerful Ubuntu Linux operating system into a removable drive (USB stick or external HDD).
You can run a full featured Ubuntu session
With Ubun2USB you will be able to run a full featured Ubuntu session. It offers session management (compressed with SquashFS), ultra fast boot process, and extremely fast performance. Not to mention that it is very portable. The program comes with a graphical installer that makes things even easier. It is very fast and low on resources, supporting automatic formatting of the target drive with the versatile FAT32 file system.
Among other interesting features, we can mention that Ubun2USB can automatically find and mount the root device, it uses the SquashFS and AUFS filesystems for building the entire root environment, uses ZRAM for the underlying block devices, and can encrypt Home directories.
Getting started with Ubun2USB
To use the software, you must boot your personal computer with a supported Ubuntu Live CD. Once the desktop session is active, go ahead and open the Mozilla Fireofx web browser. Point it to this page or the project’s homepage (see link at the end of the article).Make sure that you download the latest release. Save the archive on the Home directory and unpack it. Insert the target USB drive into an empty port and make sure its icon appears on the desktop.
Open the Terminal app, navigate to the location where you’ve extracted the archive file, and run the "install.sh" command. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Ubuntu on the attached USB flash drive.
