TurnKey Magento Live CD

TurnKey Magento Live CD is an open source software appliance that provides users with an easy-to-use and free operating system that is based on Debian GNU/Linux and designed from the ground up for people who want to deploy dedicated Magento servers with minimum effort.

Magento is an open source, professional and full-feature eCommerce solution that provides merchants with complete control over the content, functionality and look of their online store. The appliance comes with all the upstream Magento configurations, which are installed in /var/www/magento.

Key features include hourly cron jobs, the phpMyAdmin administration front-end for easy management of MySQL databases, out-of-the-box support for secure connections using the latest SSL specifications, a Postfix mail server for sending emails, and Webmin modules for configuring PHP, MySQL, Postfix and Apache.

When using this appliance to deploy Magento, please keep in mind that the phpMyAdmin software uses SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and listens for incoming connections on port 12322, the Postfix MTA is bound to localhost, and the default username for SSH, Webmin, MySQL and phpMyAdmin is root.

The appliance is distributed as Live CD ISO images, which can be written to blank CD discs or USB flash drives. They are designed for users who want to install the operating system on server computers, supporting both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms.

In addition to the Live CDs, the developers provide standalone virtual machine images for the OpenStack, Xen, OpenVZ, OpenNode and OVF virtualization technologies, downloadable from the project's homepage.

The Live CD installation is text-based, but that should not stop anyone from installing this TurnKey edition, as it will only require users to press a few Enter keys, choose a disk partitioning method, as well as to choose where to install the boot loader.

At the end of the installation process, it is a must to enter new passwords for the aforementioned accounts, as well as a valid email address and the domain to server Magento. Don't forget to write down the IP addresses and ports of the SSH, Webmin, Web Shell, phpMyAdmin and SFTP services.
