TurnKey LAPP Live CD is an open source software appliance that is based on the widely used Debian GNU/Linux operating system and built around the LAPP (Linux, Apache, PHP and PostgreSQL) web stack.

LAPP Stack is an open source web platform that includes the Apache web server, PostgreSQL database, and PHP. It can be used to run dynamic websites and servers. LAPP uses PostgreSQL as opposed to LAMP, which uses MySQL.

Key features include support for secure connections using the latest SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) implementation, PHP, Perl and Python support for PostgreSQL and Apache, the phpPgAdmin software for managing PostgreSQL databases, and Webmin modules for configuring PHP, PostgreSQL and Apache.

It is very important to mention here that, for security reasons, the PostgreSQL database server listens on localhost and enables password encryption by default. Furthermore, the pre-defined 'postgres' user is automaticlally trusted when connecting over local UNIX sockets.

The appliance is distributed as Live CD ISO images, allowing users to install it on a local disk drive without much hassle, supporting both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (amd64) hardware platforms. In addition to the Live CDs, TurnKey LAPP is available for download as virtual images for OVF, OpenNode, OpenStack, Xen and OpenNode virtualization technologies.

While the default username for the Webmin and SSH components is root, and the default PostgreSQL and phpPgAdmin username is postgres. During the first boot configuration process, which takes place after installation, users will be able to enter new passwords for the root and postgres accounts.

Optionally, you can initialize the TurnKey Hub services (Domain Management and Dynamic DNS or Backup and Migration). The appliance can be managed locally using the TurnKey Configuration Console, or remotely via the SSH, SFTP, Web Shell, Webmin or phpPgAdmin services, so don't forget to write down their IP addresses and ports at the end of the installation.
