TurnKey Etherpad Live CD is an open source distribution of Linux based on the highly acclaimed Debian GNU/Linux operating system and built around the Etherpad web application. It is the perfect tool to deploy dedicated Etherpad servers with minimum effort and without paying anything.
Etherpad is an open source real-time collaborative document editor, a Notepad for the Web. It is engineered in such a way that it allows multiple users to edit a document. The appliance comes with all of the upstream Etherpad Lite configurations, which are installed by default in /opt/etherpad and pre-configured to use MySQL.
in addition, it features Node.js configurations, which include NPM (with npm-completion), the nginx web server for proxying to nodejs daemon via SSL, as well as a custom Node.js initialization script for running node apps as daemons.
Out-of-the-box support for SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) connections is also available in this TurnKey appliance, along with a Postfix MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) that is bound to localhost and used for sending email messages to users, such as password recovery,
The Postfix mail server can be easily configured via the Webmin administration front-end. The default username for the Webmin, MySQL and SSH components is root, and new passwords can be added during the first boot configuration process, after the installation.
The appliance is distributed as Live CD ISO images, supporting both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures, which can be used as-is directly from the bootable medium (CD or USB) or installed on a computer. In addition to the Live CDs, the appliance is available for download as virtual machine images for OpenStack, Xen, OVF, OpenVZ and OpenNode virtualization technologies.
Installing it is easy as pie and takes only a few minutes, requiring users to choose a disk partitioning scheme and where to install the boot loader. At the end of the installation, you can view the active services for managing the appliance.
