StorkOS is an open source, fast and painless distribution of Linux derived from the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu, and built around one of the most minimal window managers, Fluxbox. The distro aims to revive computer with old and semi-old hardware components and it’s designed for Polish-speaking users.
It is available for download as a dual-arch Live CD
The best part of the distribution consists in its ability to run directly from the bootable medium (CD disc or USB flash drive), allowing the user to try it without installing anything on his or her computer. It is available for download as a dual-arch Live CD, which means that it can be easily deployed on computers that support both the 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.
The boot menu is basic, old style
When booting the Live CD image from the BIOS of a computer, you will encounter a boot menu that allows you to start the live system, as well as to perform a system memory diagnostic test, start the installer directly, check the integrity of the bootable medium (only if using a CD disc), boot the live system in safe graphics mode, as well as to boot an existing OS from the first drive.
Fluxbox looks stylish, the default language is Polish
As mentioned, the StorkOS operating system’s default graphical desktop environment is built around the minimal Fluxbox window manager and the default language is Polish. The desktop session looks stylish, comprised of a transparent panel located on the bottom edge of the screen. Right click anywhere on the desktop to access the main menu and launch applications.
Includes a standard set of open-source applications
Default applications include the Leafpad text editor, Mozilla Firefox and Midori web browsers, LXTerminal terminal emulator, Xpdf PDF document viewer, GIMP image editor, Xarchiver archive manager, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, AbiWord word processor, Brasero CD/DVD burning software, GNOME MPlayer video player, VLC Media Player and Synaptic Package Manager for installing additional apps.
