Solak K&D (Key and Dagger) is a free and open source penetration testing operating system derived from the world’s most popular distribution of Linux, Ubuntu, and the BackTrack successor, Kali Linux. It uses the Xfce desktop environment and features a Windows 8-like theme.
Supports 32-bit and 64-bit computers
The distribution can be downloaded via Softoware or directly from its official website (see link above) as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image that supports 32-bit and 64-bit computers. It can be burned onto a DVD disc or written on a USB flash drive of 4GB or higher capacity.
Windows Startup Settings
At least this is what is noted on the background image used for the Live CD boot menu, which allows you to start the live system, perform a system memory diagnostic test, boot an existing operating system from the local drive, as well as to access a help screen for advanced boot options.
Xfce uses a Windows 8-like theme
As mentioned, the Solak K&D distribution is built around the lightweight Xfce desktop environment, which uses a Windows 8-like theme. It comprises of a transparent taskbar that allows users to quickly access the main menu and launch applications. Keep in mind though, that you must login with the username “root” and password “toor” (without quotes).
Comes pre-loaded with top-notch apps
Some of the best open source applications have been pre-installed in the Solak K&D operating system. Among these, we can mention the GIMP image editor, gThumb image viewer, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Transmission torrent downloader, XChat IRC client, flareGet download manager, Wireshark network scanner, Parole media player, VLC Media Player and gmusicbrowser audio player.
Includes Kali Linux’s penetration testing tools
Being designed from the ground up to be used for penetration testing operations, the Solak K&D distro includes Kali Linux’s penetration testing tools, which are organized into categories and subcategories under the main menu.
