RusDeb is an open source Linux operating system that uses the traditional and low-on-resources MATE desktop environment on top of the latest Ubuntu and Debian technologies.
Distributed as Live DVD images for two mainstream architectures
While the distribution can be downloaded as Live bootable DVD ISO images, it can support both 32-bit and 64-bit instruction set architectures. Keep in mind that you must burn the ISO images to DVD discs using any CD/DVD burning software or write them on USB flash drives of 1GB or higher capacity in order to boot them from the BIOS of a computer.
Boot options
The distribution comes with a standard boot menu, which uses a custom background image and allows the user to start the live environment with default drivers and boot options or in safe graphics mode, perform a system memory diagnostic check, boot an existing operating system from the first disk, as well as to directly start the graphical installer.
Traditional desktop environment powered by Xfce
As mentioned, RusDeb is a distribution designed for Russian-speaking users, which means that the default language on the Live DVDs is Russian. The desktop environment is powered by MATE and uses a two-panel layout (a bottom one and another one on the left side of the screen).
Powerful, yet lightweight open source applications
Among the preinstalled applications, we can mention the Brasero CD/DVD burning software, VLC Media Player, GParted partition editor, GNOME Disk Utility, GDebi DEB package installer, LibreOffice office suite, qutIM multi-protocol instant messenger, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Transmission torrent downloader, and inxi system information script.
