PCLinuxOS Xfce Community Remaster is an open source project, created by members of the PCLinuxOS community, that aims to create two special flavors of the highly acclaimed PCLinuxOS operating system built around the lightweight Xfce graphical desktop environment.
It’s distributed as 32-bit/64-bit Live DVDs
This is the first and main edition of the PCLinuxOS Xfce Community Remaster, distributed as 32-bit and 64-bit Live DVD ISO images of approximately 1GB in size each. The ISOs are hybrid and can be easily deployed to either DVD discs or USB thumb drives of 2GB or higher capacity, in order to boot them from the BIOS of a computer and use the operating system in live mode.
Boot menu à la PCLinuxOS
Being derived from PCLinuxOS, the distribution inherits its Live DVD boot menu, which is identical in both 32-bit and 64-bit flavors. From there, the user can start the live system with normal configuration, without boot splash, in safe graphics mode using the VESA framebuffer, in safe boot mode or by copying the contents of the ISO image to RAM. It is also possible to drop to a shell prompt in case you want to rescue a broken OS or start the installer directly.
Xfce has been highly customized
Before you can access the graphical session, it is a must to choose a keyboard layout. The Xfce desktop environment has been highly customized in this PCLinuxOS edition, specifically for new Linux users who want to migrate from the deprecated Windows XP operating system. It features a productive two-panel layout and numerous useful applets (desktop switcher, application launcher, system tray area, main menu, show desktop, etc.).
Includes a wide range of open-source software projects
The PCLinuxOS Xfce Community Remaster operating system includes a wide range of open-source software projects, among which we can mention the Synaptic Package Manager, BleachBit system cleaner, GIMP image editor, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Pidgin instant messenger, Transmission torrent downloader, gFTP file transfer client, and many more.
