Linux Torrent Box is an open source and small distribution of Linux based on the widely used Ubuntu operating system and designed from the ground up to help you turn an old computer into a dedicated torrent server. It is built around the GNOME 2 desktop environment.
Distributed as a dual-arch Live CD
While the distribution can be downloaded via Softoware or from its official website (see link above) as a Live CD ISO image, it has been engineered to be tested without installing anything, suitable for either 32-bit or 64-bit hardware platforms.
Boot options
Users will be presented with a basic boot prompt where you just need to hit the Enter key on your keyboard to access the boot menu, which will allow them to run the live environment with default boot options or in safe graphics mode, directly start the graphical installer, perform a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the local drive.
Old-school desktop environment powered by GNOME 2.30
Being based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx), the distribution comes with the old-school GNOME 2.30 desktop environment, which uses a two-panel layout. The top panel is where the main menu is located, allowing the user to easily launch applications. On the other hand, the bottom panel is perfect for interacting with running programs.
A minimal set of open source applications
As expected, this is a stripped-down version of Ubuntu, which includes only a few applications, such as the Rhythmbox music player, PiTiVi video player, Totem movie player, Brasero CD/DVD burning software, Evolution email and calendar client, Mozilla Firefox web browser, and Ubuntu Software Center.
