Gigastrand OS

Gigastrand OS is a self-supported, freely distributed and user-friendly GNU/Linux operating system specifically designed for Mac or Windows users who want to migrate into the open source world of Linux. The distribution is designed to be easy to use, built around the KDE desktop environment and derived from the popular Debian distro.

It helps users of other OSes with their Linux transition, comes pre-loaded with essential applications, allows you to easily install additional software, provides built-in compatibility with Microsoft Windows OSes, includes self-support resources, and offer end-user support resources.

Distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD

At the moment, the latest version of the Gigastrand OS distribution is available for download for free as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image that can be booted on both 32-bit and 64-bit computers. The ISO image is hybrid, which means that you can write it on DVD discs or USB drives or 4GB or higher capacity.

From the boot prompt, you can start the live system with normal configuration or in failsafe mode, perform a system memory (RAM) diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the local disk drive. If dropped to a shell prompt, use the ‘startx’ command to fire up the graphical session.

Comes pre-loaded with powerful applications

Among the included applications, we can mention the OpenShot video editor, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox web browsers, Adobe Reader PDF document reader, Apache OpenOffice.org office suite, as well as Mozilla Thunderbird email, chat and news client.

A full version of the CrossOver application for installing Windows apps is also provided, along with a Spideroak Cloud backup with 2GB of free storage for life, and numerous games designed to entertain you and your friends.
