eXPress-linux Openbox is an open source Linux kernel-based operating system derived from the world’s most popular distribution of Linux, Ubuntu, and built around the minimalist Openbox window manager.

It’s distributed as a dual-arch Live CD

The Openbox edition of eXPress-linux is distributed as a dual-arch Live CD ISO image that contains software packages optimized for both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86_64) hardware platforms.

Features advanced boot options

When booting the ISO image from the BIOS of a computer, using either a USB thumb drive or a CD disc, the boot menu will prompt users with various advanced boot options, such as the ability to perform a system memory diagnostic test, boot an existing OS from the first drive, as well as to boot the live system in four different modes.

The desktop environment is modern, attractive and productive

The operating system features a unique graphical desktop interface, powered by the lightweight Openbox window manager and comprised of a dock (applications launcher) on the right side of the screen, as well as a status bar located on the bottom edge of the screen.

Contains all the applications needed for daily use

Among the pre-installed applications, we can mention the Chromium web browser, Emesene instant messenger, Skype VoIP client, Leafpad text editor, AbiWord word processor, GNOME MPlayer video player, Xfburn CD/DVD burning software, Gnumeric spreadsheet editor and guvcview webcam viewer.

In addition, the Mirage image viewer, Evince document viewer, Sakura terminal emulator, PCManFM file manager, Xarchiver archive manager and XTerm terminal emulator are also included. Keep in mind though, that the default language is Italian.

Minimum system requirements for running eXPress-linux Openbox

Minimum system requirements for running the eXPress-linux Openbox operating system include at least 128 MB of RAM (system memory), a Intel Pentium II or better processor, and a graphics card capable of 800x600 resolution.

It is no longer under active development

Be aware that, as of 21 April, 2013, both the LXDE and Openbox editions of the eXPress-linux operating system are no longer under active development. They have been archived for historical purposes only!
