Delta Linux is an open source and freely distributed Linux operating system based on the powerful Arch Linux distribution and built around the Awesome window manager, designed to provide users with a minimal and very fast Live OS.
Distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD
You can download this distribution of Linux via Softoware or from its official website (see link above) as a single, dual-arch Live DVD ISO image or approximately 1GB in size. It supports both 64-bit (x86_64) and 32-bit (i386) instruction set architectures and must be deployed to either a USB flash drive of 1GB or higher capacity or a blank DVD disc in order to boot it from the BIOS of a PC.Boot options à la Arch Linux
Being based on Arch Linux, the distro uses an identical boot prompt with the one of the official Arch Linux ISO image, allowing the user to start the live environment with 32-bit or 64-bit support, as well as to boot an existing operating system that is installed on the first disk of the computer. In addition, you can perform a system memory diagnostic test, run the HDT (Hardware Detection Tool) DOS utility to view detailed information about the hardware components of your computer, as well as to reboot or shutdown the machine.
Minimal desktop environment powered by Awesome WM
Unfortunately, users are dropped to a shell prompt when booting the Live DVD, which means that they must type the “startx” command (without quotes) in order to start the desktop session. There is no desktop environment on this Arch Linux based operating system, as it features only a minimal window manager powered by the Awesome software project and comprised of single panel located on the upper part of the screen.
It includes the Mozilla Firefox web browser, the Irssi IRC client, URxvt terminal emulator and Gnash-GTK media player applications. The right-click context menu provides you with the ability to quickly refresh the graphical session, reboot or power off the machine.
