CacheGuard OS is an all-in-one, free and commercial, turn-key and powerful Linux kernel-based operating system specifically designed from the offset to be used for controlling and optmizing the web traffic of your computer or local area network (LAN).
It is an integrated solution capable of transforming any x86 based computer into an affordable, yet powerful web gateway appliance. CacheGuard OS is independent, built from scratch and based on a custom-hardened version of the Linux kernel.
Features at a glance
With CacheGuard OS you will be able to proxify the HTTP, HTTPS, FTP and FTPS protocols, offering support for Hypertext Transfer Protocol transparent implementation and compression methods, user-defined blacklists and whitelists, as well as caching technologies.The firewall implementation offered by CacheGuard OS features NAT (Network Address Translation), PAT (Port Address Translation), QoS (bandwidth management), SSH-based and Web-based administration interfaces, IP firewall, proxy support and bandwidth shaping.
In addition, it offers a wide variety of web optimization and security technologies, including HTTP compression, web application firewall, URL filtering, caching, web malware filtering, and many others.
Distributed as 64-bit and 32-bit ISO images or as a virtual appliance
For your convenience, the operating system is available for download as bootable ISO images, supporting 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86_64) computers, as well as virtual appliances that have been configured to support up to 20 end-users.While the ISO images fit on CD discs or USB thumb drives of at least 512MB of size, the OVA virtual images are compatible with either of the VMware Workstation or Oracle VirtualBox virtualization software.
CacheGuard is free for up to 100 users. Anything higher than that will require you to purchase a commercial license. Pricing starts from 399.00 USD (319 EUR) per year for a subscription for up to 500 users. More details can be found on the project’s website (see link below).
What is new in this release:
- The bug introduced in version 1.0.10 that prevented to have more than one reverse website associated to the same IP address has been fixed.
- The bug introduced in version 1.0.10 that prevented to activate the web server when the reverse website list contains HTTPS websites has been fixed.
- Generic WAF rules associated to a reverse website are reset when a reverse website is deleted.
- The rweb mode has been enhanced to redirect HTTP to HTTPS for HTTPS reverse websites (if the IP address associated to HTTPS website is used for an HTTP website).
- The bug that makes the reverse website list unsorted after deleting and adding a new website has been fixed.
