ALT Linux IceWM is an extremely lightweight Linux-based operating system built around the IceWM window manager and specifically designed to be used on very old computers.
Being based on the Mandrake distribution, the ALT Linux operating system provides users with a computing environment crafted for perfection and distributed into multiple editions, each one with an open source desktop environment (Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce, KDE, GNOME, LXDE, WindowMaker, etc.).

ALT Linux IceWM is distributed as dual Live CD ISO images designed to support both 64-bit and 32-bit architectures. They include a persistent mode that allows users to save their settings and re-use the live system directly from the boot medium (only available for USB flash drives).
The Live CD can be used to start an existing OS or run a memory test. Users will also be able to install the entire operating system locally, on a disk drive, using the included installer.

It boots fast and presents users with a minimalistic desktop environment powered by IceWM. A single taskbar placed at the bottom edge of the screen will enable users to interact with active apps, switch between virtual desktops, launch their favorite apps, and access the system tray area.
