Historia-Battles is a freely distributed and cross-platform software that provides users with a turn-based strategy (TBS) game that tries to reproduce historical battles between Greeks, Romans, Celtics, Etruscans, Trojans, Persians, and Carthaginians.

Features at a glance

Key features include an platform-independent graphical user interface, support for over 10 different battles, easy access to player settings and network games, different game speeds, as well as three different gameplay modes.

Among the supported battles, we can mention 1250 B.C. Troy Battle (Greeks VS Trojans), 508 B.C. Porsenna siege of Rome (Romans VS Etruscans), 480 B.C. Termopylae Battle (Greeks VS Persians), 390 B.C. Allia Battle (Romans VS Celtics), and 216 B.C. Cannae Battle (Romans VS Carthaginians).

In addition, it also features the 58 B.C. Caesar Bibracte Battle (Romans VS Celtics), 58 B.C. Caesar Ariovisto Mulhouse Battle (Romans VS Celtics), 57 B.C. Caesar Sabis Battle (Romans VS Celtics), 52 B.C. Caesar Alesia Battle (Romans VS Celtics), 48 B.C. Caesar Pharsalus Battle (Romans VS Romans), and 9 A.D. Teutoburg forest Battle (Romans VS Germans) historical battles.

The graphical user interface comprises of three separate windows, the main window where the player can play the game, a Game Status window that provides player comparison and a map overview, as well as the Game Start Window that lets you access player settings and network games.

Under the hood and availability

The game uses the JDOM XML API and is written entirely in the Java programming language, which means that it's a cross-platform software that works on GNU/Linux, Android, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

On Linux systems, the game is available for download as a DEB installer for Debian/Ubuntu-based operating systems, as well as a binary archive for any other distribution of Linux. Both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures are supported at this time.
