Basic Blind Chess

Basic Blind Chess is a free, open source and multiplatform chess board and puzzle game, implemented in Python/PyGame, where the player needs to press the mouse button to open a piece in the board and drag it to move or capture other pieces of different color.

Also known as Dark Chess, Half Chess or Banqi

This game is also known as s Dark Chess, Half Chess or Banqi. It can be played by a single player, on a 4x8 grid, against the computer (AI). Basic Blind Chess uses the Taiwan rule with the basic minimax tree structure, an advanced algorithm called Alpha-Beta Pruning, as well as various other rules.

When starting a new game, pawns will be automatically placed on the board, so players can play Basic Blind Chess immediately. While following its rules, players are free to experiment with the game. A game can be easily restarted at any point.

Getting started with Basic Blind Chess

Basic Blind Chess requires no installation! To use it on your GNU/Linux operating system, simply download the latest release from Softoware by clicking the download button above (alternatively, you can download the game for its website), saving the archive on your Home directory.

Then, you must open a terminal emulator application, navigate to the location where you have unpacked the source package and run the ‘python darkchess.py’ command to start the game. Please note that Basic Blind Chess works only with Python 2.x and any PyGame version.

Runs on GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems

Being written in Python and PyGame, the Basic Blind Chess game can be used under any GNU/Linux distribution where these technologies are available, as well as on the Microsoft Windows operating systems. It is currently supported on 32 and 64-bit computer platforms.
