gumnut

Gumnut is a piece of communication software which may be used by a group of people to find an agreed positive direction for any decisions which affect the group. The group may be any size and associated by geography, common interest or both.

The display is currently a simple text based interface which can be used to post a new comment, reply to an existing comment, mirror a comment or to search for and display a discussion tree of comments.

Mirroring is the method used to indicate agreement with a particular comment. This increases the number of instances on the network and thus gives the comment a higher moderation weighting for those who subsequently search for and view that comment.
Gumnut is released under the GNU General Public Licence.

Gnutella project is the underlying network used for searching and retrieving the comment files. Although Gnutella may not scale well for a very large number of nodes, it is a well known distributed protocol which has a robust GPLed servent written for it named Gnut.

The existing search and download commands from Gnut are used and expanded with addition of the comment based commands of create, reply, mirror and display.
Gumnut is Free Software released under the GNU General Public Licence and runs on GNU/Linux and possibly other POSIX compliant Operating Systems. Current distribution is a source tarball which compiles with "./configure" and "make".

What is new in this release:

• "cave resolve --continue-on-failure" interacted weirdly with background fetching. This is now fixed.
• Support for automatic repository configuration creation via installing a "repository/somerepo" pseudo-package is now available on Gentoo.
• Queries in the form "*/*::foo->" no longer force pointless generation of metadata for ebuilds.

• Default dropdown values were fixed. The search is narrowed when using dropdown presets.

• Added extra language options and local network connect options. New version of bootable CD.

What is new in version 0.3.0:

• 'redisplay' changed to perform a default search if invoked initially.
• An option to connect to the online network now added to the GUI.

What is new in version 0.2.9:

• Added 'Last Month' and 'This Month' to the date dropdown and removed 'Past Week'. Coloured the rows when showing local files for easier reading.
• In the text interface, the find command with no arg now searches for "leaf".
• Included a new example init.d script to start and stop as a daemon in a GNU/screen session.

What is new in version 0.2.6:

• This version was modified to retrieve and use an externally visible IP address, which now allows gumnut to connect over the Internet if on a NATed host.
• Changes from version 0.2.5 were also included.

• very minor change to redirect output from x-www-browser to /dev/null to avoid clogging the text user interface

• Add connection and hosts information to the bottom of the GUI options page.
