uxubos

uxubos is an open source, featureful, free and modern computer operating system derived from the well-known Xubuntu Linux distribution and built around the lightweight Xfce desktop environment. It supports the English, Spanish, German and Brazilian Portuguese languages.

Distributed as a 64-bit Live DVD

The uxubos distribution is available for download as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image that has a little over 2GB in size, optimized only for 64-bit (x86_64) instruction set architectures. Having over 2GB in size, the ISO image needs to be written on either a single-layer DVD disc or a USB thumb drive of 4GB or higher capacity.

Offers advanced boot options

The Live DVD boot menu offers both standard and advanced boot options, which allow the user to try the operating system without installing it, start the installer directly and install the distro on your personal computer, check the disc for defects, but only if you’re booting from a DVD media.

In addition, it is possible to run a memory test, boot an existing OS from the local drive, access a help screen with more details about available boot options, change the system language, keyboard layout, video mode and accessibility options, as well as to pass extra parameters to the kernel.

Xfce is the default graphical environment

As mentioned, the distribution uses the lightweight Xfce desktop environment, which boasts a single-panel layout. While the panel is located by default on the upper part of the screen, it can be easily moved to the bottom edge of the screen. The panel can be used to access the main menu, launch apps, interact with running programs, as well as to access essential system functions.

Comes pre-loaded with numerous apps

The distribution includes a wide range of open-source applications. Among some of the most important ones, we can mention the Geary email client, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, gmusicbrowser audio player and Mozilla Firefox web browser. Please keep in mind, when using this distro, that the default username is ‘xubuntu’ without a password.
