TurnKey OpenLDAP Live CD is an open source and free project that provides users with a software appliance based on the Debian GNU/Linux operating system and built around the OpenLDAP software. It is designed from the ground up to be used by people who are looking for a straightforward solution to deploy dedicated OpenLDAP servers.
OpenLDAP is an open source LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) implementation, a fully featured and commercial-grade LDAP suite of applications and development utilities. For users' convenience, the appliance comes with all of the upstream OpenLDAP configurations, which are configured to support TLS (Transport Layer Security).
For your convenience, the OpenLDAP configuration files include Users and Groups Organizational Units, PosixGroup, and lets you to set the system administrator password and the LDAP domain on first boot.
The phpLDAPadmin software is also included in this TurnKey appliance, allowing users to easily manage the LDAP server. It is installed by default in /var/www/phpldapadmin and uses the latest SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) implementations.
In addition, it features various Webmin modules for configuring Apache, PHP, Postix and MySQL. While the default username for the SSH, Webmin and MySQL components is root, the default OpenLDAP username is example.com.
The appliance is available for download as two Live CD ISO images, one for each of the supported architectures (64-bit and 32-bit), as well as ready-to-use virtual images in the OpenStack, OpenVZ, OpenNode, OpenVZ and OVF formats.
If you want to install it on a local disk drive, please use the ISO images, which can be burned onto CD discs using any CD/DVD burning software, or deployed to USB thumb drives using either UNetbootin or Disks.
The text-based installation process should take about 5 minutes from the moment you boot the Live CD. After installation, it is a must to set the root password, as well as a new password for the OpenLDAP 'admin' account. Additionally, you must enter the OpenLDAP domain and write down the IP addresses and ports of the active services.
