TurnKey Omeka Live CD is an open source software appliance that allows anyone to easily and quickly deploy a dedicated Omeka server with minimum effort. It is based on the award winning and stable Debian GNU/Linux operating system.

Omeka is a standards-based and open source web-based publishing platform designed especially for cultural collections, such as exhibitions, museum, library, archives, or scholarly collections. The appliance contains all of the upstream Omeka configurations, which are installed by default in /var/www/omeka.

Among some of the main components that are part of this TurnKey appliance, we can mention a Postfix mail server for sending emails to users, such as password recovery, as well as the phpMyAdmin administrative front-end for managing MySQL databases, which listens on port 12322 via SSL.

In addition, the appliance comes with a wide range of Webmin modules for configuring the MySQL, PHP, Postfix and Apache components, as well as out-of-the-box support for secure connections using the latest SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) technologies.

The project is distributed as two Live CD ISO images, which are available for download from the dedicated section (see above), as well as virtual images in the OpenStack, OpenNode, OpenVZ, OVF and Xen formats from the project's homepage.

The ISO images can be used for easy installation of the Omeka appliance on any computer, supporting both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (amd64) instruction set architectures. The text-mode installation process will only require users to format/partition the disk drive and choose where to install the boot loader.

While the default username for the Webmin, PHPMyAdmin, MySQL and SSH compoents is root, the default Omeka username is admin. During the first boot configuration process, you will be able to enter a new password for the root account, as well as for the MySQL 'root' account.

Additionally, it is a must to set up a new password and a valid email address for the Omeka 'admin' account. At the end of the first boot setup process, you will be notified about the existing methods for accessing your new Omeka server.
