TurnKey Nginx Live CD is a free and open source operating system that has been designed from the ground up to act as an appliance that helps people to deploy dedicated Nginx servers in minutes, with minimum effort.
Nginx is an open source web server, reverse proxy and load balancer that emphasizes performance, low memory usage, and high concurrency, supporting over 10,000 simultaneous connections. The appliance is based on the award winning Debian GNU/Linux operating system.
Key features include the Nginx web server engineered to proxy PHP requests to the PHP-FastCGI daemon, the TurnKey Web Control panel, as well as the phpMyAdmin software for easy administration of MySQL databases, which uses SSL and listens on port 12322.
In addition, the appliance comes with a Postfix mail server for sending email messages to users, such as password recovery, various Webmin modules for configuring MySQL, Postfix and PHP, and support for secure connections using the latest SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) specifications.
This TurnKey appliance is distributed as Live CD ISO images, which can be used on either 32-bit or 64-bit hardware platfoms, as well as virtual images that support different virtualization technologies, including OpenVZ, OpenNode, OpenStack, Xen and OVF.
It is possible to try the appliance before installing it, simply by using the demo mode option provided on the boot prompt of the Live CD ISO images. The default username for the Webmin, MySQL, SSH and phpMyAdmin components is root.
The installation process is text-based, but it will only require users to partition the disk and choose where to install the boot loader. After the installation, the first boot configuration wizard will kick in, allowing users to enter new passwords for the system administrator and MySQL 'root' accounts.
Don't forget to write down the IP addresses and ports of the active services (SSH, SFTP, phpMyAdmin, Web Shell, Webmin) for managing your newly installed Nginx server.
