RebeccaBlackOS Reduced is an open source distribution of Linux, a minimal edition of the RebeccaBlackOS operating system. Its target audience are Wayland developers who want to deploy their applications on the modern display server.
While the distribution’s name has nothing to do with the Rebecca Black actress, it is a very good Live DVD distribution for those curious to see and learn how the use the forthcoming Wayland window system, which will replace the old X.Org in many distributions.
Can be downloaded as a 32-bit Live DVD
As mentioned, this is a smaller flavor of the original RebeccaBlackOS distribution, including half the packages that exist in the original version of the OS. It’s available for download as a single Live DVD ISO image that can be written to a USB flash drive or a blank DVD disc.At the moment, only the 32-bit (i386) instruction set architecture is supported by the RebeccaBlackOS Reduced Linux operating system. Several framebuffer modes are available on the boot prompt, just in case the default settings don’t recognize your video card.
In addition, you can boot an existing operating system installed on the first disk drive of your computer, or run a memory test directly from the boot menu of the Live DVD. There is no installation option!
Features the Orbital and Hawaii desktop environments
The system comes with the Orbital and Hawaii desktop environments, as well as Wayland-enabled Qt, SDL, KDE Frameworks, Clutter, GTK, GStreamer, MPlayer, and EFL/Elementary packages. It also includes the SWC tiling Wayland server, a fully functional Wayland login manager, as well as a tool for configuring udev for Weston multi pointer and multiseat.
