Pinoy Pup Linux OS is a completely free and open source operating system based on the minimal Puppy Linux distribution, built around the fast and lightweight Xfce desktop environment and designed for Filipino-speaking users.
Distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD
The operating system can be downloaded from Softoware or directly from the project’s official website as a Live DVD ISO image of approximately 1GB in size, designed to support both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64) hardware platforms.
Boot options à la Puppy Linux
The boot prompt is very minimal, designed mainly to start the operating system with default boot options (it boots automatically in 10 seconds, but you can also hit the Enter key from the get-go). However, you can access a help menu by pressing the F2 key.
Xfce graphical session with a Mac OS theme
As mentioned, the default and only desktop environment of this custom Puppy Linux operating system is Xfce, which uses a Mac OS theme and comprises of a bottom dock (application launcher) for quick access to pre-installed applications (see below for a detailed list) and a top panel for easy access to system settings.
Includes a plethora of open source applications and utilities
Among the included applications, we can mention Pidgin, Mozilla Firefox, Wine, Java, Python, GNU Image Manipulation Program, VLC Media Player, Openshot, LibreOffice, GParted, Photorec, Testdisk 6.11.3, safecopy, Pscx-r, Dia, Google Earth, Netpen, Audacity, Bombono, Gtkpod, Kdenlive, Asunder 1.9.3, Gftp, psppire, Scribus, Amaya, Geany and Chromium.
Bottom line
All in all, Pinoy Pup Linux OS is a decent operating system designed especially for Filipino-speaking users and using one of the fastest desktop environment/operating system combination, Puppy Linux and Xfce. You can install it on a local disk drive or uses it as-is directly from the Live CD/USB.
