Galsoft Linux

Galsolft Linux is an open source, fast, versatile, lightweight, customizable, freely distributed and user-friendly desktop-oriented Linux kernel-based operating system designed for Galician-speaking users and derived from the Lubuntu Linux distribution, using LXDE as its default graphocal desktop environment.

Distributed as a 32-bit Live DVD ISO image

The operating system is currently distributed as a Live DVD ISO image that has approximately 1.3 GB in size and includes software packages optimized only for 32-bit (i386) instruction set architectures. It can be easily installed on a local hard disk drive or used directly from the live media (DVD or USB flash drive).

Boot options

From the Live DVD boot menu, the user can start the live system with normal configuration or in safe graphics mode, start the installation directly, perform a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the local disk drive.

Built around the LXDE desktop environment

The distribution uses the lightweight LXDE desktop environment for its graphical session, along with the minimalist Openbox window manager. The layout is clean and traditional, comprised of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen, allowing the user to navigate the main menu and launch applications, interact with running programs, as well as to access essential system functions.

Comes pre-loaded with a wide variety of applications

Galsolft Linux includes some of the most useful open source applications, while promoting libre software for both Linux and Windows operating systems. Among some of the most important software, we can mention PCManFM file manager, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Transmission torrent downloader, Xpad note-taking app, Xfburn CD/DVD burning software, Disks disk utility, Synaptic Package Manager and GNOME MPlayer video player.

In addition, the Audacious audio player, GPicView image viewer, GParted partition editor, Evince document viewer, guvcview webcam viewer, Chromium and Mozilla Firefox web browsers, Sylpheed email client, AbiWord word processor, Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, VLC Media Player, LibreOffice office suite, the latest Java Runtime Environment, numerous multimedia codecs and Adobe Flash Player are also installed.
