download_opensubtitle is an open source script implemented in Python, a right-click service menu for the KDE graphical desktop environment that allows users to easily and quickly download movie subtitles from the opensubtitle.org subtitle hosting website.
Installing download_opensubtitle
To install this script in your KDE desktop environment, download the archive by clicking the download link above, save it on your Home directory and copy the download_subtitle.py file from the download_opensubtitle fodler to some folder in your Home directory, such as ~/bin.Supports KDE 3.x and KDE 4.x installations
KDE3 users should copy the download_subtitle.desktop file to the ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus folder, and KDE4 users should copy the download_subtitle.desktop file to the ~.kde/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus directory.Getting started with download_opensubtitle
To use it, right click on a video file, go to Actions, and click on the Download Subtitle entry. A list of subtitles will be displayed on a new dialog, allowing you to choose one that you think it’s best for your movie. The subtitle will be immediately downloaded and saved in the same folder and with the same name as your video file.Under the hood
We don’t really have to look under the hood of the download_opensubtitle script to known that it is written in the Python programming language, but we’ve discovered that besides the Python runtime, it also requires the Wget download manager for downloading the subtitles, as well as the Kdialog utility for displaying its graphical user interface. What is new in this release:
