Layers

Layers is one of the most powerful WordPress theme frameworks around, combining the classic parent-child theme approach with the newer trend of visual page builders.

This free tool is so easy to use that we here at Softoware find it hard to believe that any beginner will ever have a problem setting up a website on it.

Gone are the days of digging deep into a theme's code to make basic layout modifications, and gone will be the days of paying tens of dollars for bulky, unsecure, commercial WP themes. Unless you're paying for Layers themes, style kits, and extensions, which are available by the way, on Envato's famous CodeCanyon and ThemeForest marketplaces.

The guys at Obox Themes have done a great job at integrating Layers with the built-in WordPress Customizer, seamlessly blending custom theme options with the default customization settings already available.

Adding a new Layers-powered page can be done using one of the free pre-built templates or starting from scratch with a blank canvas.

Editing is as easy, the WordPress Customizer letting users point and click to enter an element's editing mode.

For each element or widget added to a Layers page specific settings are available, so when editing a slider users will see one thing, and when editing a text section, they'll text-specific options.

This feels like working with professional site building services like Wix or Squarespace, but without all those hefty fees that come with such great treats.

And the best thing is that all of these features are free, the entire Layers framework being open sourced, with no "extra" charges for "extra" features.

Installation:

Unpack and upload it to the /wp-content/themes/ directory.

Activate the plugin through the 'Appearance' -> 'Themes' menu in WordPress.
