This package provides the Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002/ST320DM000/ST250DM000 Firmware Update and is supported on OptiPlex, XPS Desktop, Inspiron Desktop, Precision and Vostro Desktop models that are running the following Windows Operating Systems: Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Enhancements:

- Enhanced Power Up In Standby (PUIS) feature. PUIS is SATA hard disk configuration which prevents the drive from automatic spin-up when power is applied. The spin-up occurs later by ATA command only, when the disc is needed, to conserve electric power.
- Enhanced drive stability under extremely heavy workload.

Devices supported:

- Seagate ST250DM000-1BD141
- Seagate ST320DM000-1BD14C
- Seagate ST500DM002-1BD142
- ST250DM000-1BD141

Installation steps (for exe / zip):

1. Save the driver files to your computer.
2. Run the executable or extract the installation files to a location on your disk.
3. Follow the steps displayed by the setup wizard.
4. After installation, restart the computer.

Important notes:

- Before installation, save all your work and close all the running programs, as the installation may interfere with other apps;
- If the setup wizard requests Administrative rights, make sure to run the setup as Administrator;
- Pay attention to all installation instructions to make sure the driver is installed correctly;

About HDD Firmware:

Updating the HDD’s (Hard Disk Drive) firmware version can fix various problems that might occur, enhance some of the features available or add support for new ones, and improve the unit’s overall performance.

However, as this task can be very risky, applying a different firmware is recommended only when the newer version specifically resolves an issue that bothers you, or brings about changes that you can make full use of.

In addition to that, make sure you perform this task only in a steady power environment (such as the one ensured by a UPS unit).

As for the update process, due to the wide variety of HDDs and various methods provided by each manufacturer for installing a new firmware, it would be best if you carefully read and understand the installation steps.

That being said, if you consider updating the HDD to this firmware version, click the download button, and make sure you read the installation guide before initiating the upgrade. Moreover, constantly check with our website to stay up to date with the latest releases.
