Gloobus Preview is an open source and free software project implemented in C++ as a GNOME-based desktop utility for quickly previewing files in full screen, inspired by Apple’s Quicklook application. It’s an extension for the GNOME desktop environment.

The project has been designed in such a way that it can enable a full screen preview of the most common files used by any Linux users on a regular basis. It is extremely easy to use, as you will only have to press the Space key on a selected file to view it full screen.

Supports a wide variety of file types

At the moment, it supports plain text files, folders, source code (Java, PHP, C++, SH, Python), image files (JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG, ICNS, PSD, XCF), music files (MP3, MP4, WAV, OGG, MIDI), documents (DOC, PDF, ODP, PPT, XLS, ODF, CBZ, CBR), and video files (AVI, MKV, OGG, FLV, WVM).

No longer supports recent versions of Ubuntu

The software has been tailored specifically for the Ubuntu Linux distribution, but development stopped when highly acclaimed operating system dropped the GNOME desktop environment in favor of the modern and controversial Unity user interface.

However, it might be useful for other GNU/Linux operating system that still use the GNOME desktop environment. The software boasts a sleek black interface designed from the ground up to put your files in focus.

Under the hood and availability

Looking under the hood of the Gloobus Preview project, we can immediately notice that it has been written entirely in the C++ programming language, which means that it is fast on any supported Linux kernel-based operating systems. It was successfully tested on both 64-bit and 32-bit computers.

Currently, the software is available for download as a universal sources archive, allowing you to optimize it for a specific hardware architecture or operating system, as well as native installers for several Ubuntu distributions.

What is new in version 0.4.1:

  • I've been working so hard these days!! and gloobus-0.4.1 is almost ready to be released, This is just a bug fixing version so it will run much more fine in your computers!
  • Martin Cesare has been helping me in developing the web and we have it almost finished, I hope we can synchronize web release with 0.4.1 release anyway, we need a hosting (now we own gloobus.com.ar domain) so if you own a hosting or know a good one, we're all ears.
  • Anyway, I've been working in covergloobus (http://launchpad.net/covergloobus) again, I think it needs some love to make it even more useful! Like adding screenshots on the config for a easy theme selection, more lyrics engines, more players supported, and more things, again, if you have any idea to add, please, tell me or just fill up a blueprint
  • I just wanted to say thanks to you all for you support with my last gloobus version and say that I'll keep working on it. Looking forward to 0.4.2 version that will have great new features!!!

What is new in version 0.4:
