It is a multilingual software that features support for UTF-8/Unicode, support for IDN, ccTLD, ccIDN and gTLD, support for the mailbox format of Dovecot and Maildir, and easy-to-configure basic mailbox structure, including sub-mailboxes.

With vmm (virtual mail manager) you will also be able to effortlessly manage mail servers. It has been designed to work with the Postfix and Dovecot mail servers, and it should work on any Linux and UNIX-like operating system.

Getting started with vmm

Installing vmm on your GNU/Linux computer is the easiest of tasks, as you must download the latest version of the program from Softoware or via its official website (see link at the end of the article), save the archive on a location of your choice, unpack it and open a Terminal app.

In the terminal emulator window, simply type the ‘sh install.sh’ command to install vmm system wide and make it available to all users on your Linux kernel-based operating system. After installation, run the ‘vmm --help’ command to view the program’s command-line options.

Command-line options

Default command-line options include the ability to find a user by an ID and disable all services, to manage aliases (add or remove), to search and list domains, to add users, to view domain information, to add domains, to delete domains, and to manage domain aliases (add/remove).

In addition, you can add, remove or view detailed information about relocates, add a password to a specific user, view detailed information about a user, as well as to configure the program.
