Required for Publishing

For example, if there is a long node creation form, with required fields for which the user may not have data available at the moment of node creation, they won't be able to submit the form at all until they have the required data.

Required for Publishing solves that by allowing users to save a node even when certain (i.e. defined by the administrator) required fields are not filled. The node will be kept in an unpublished state until all the required fields are filled at a later time.

Installation

Unpack in your modules folder (usually '/sites/all/modules/')
Enable under Administer > Site Building > Modules.
