JSON is a light-weight, language independent, data interchange format, ideal for data transfers, organization, and storage.
JSON mainly revolves around how data structures can be saved and recorded, and then easily transformed to another language-specific data structure.
JSON was made famous by JavaScript developers as a primary way of moving JS arrays around.
Since data objects (arrays, matrices) are used with every programming language, using JSON to transfer data from one programming environment to another was a very handy solution to take advantage off.
GSON simply smooths out the difference between a Java object's structure and a JSON object, allowing Java data structures to be saved to JSON.
The reverse operation is supported as well.
