CockroachDB

CockroachDB is a relatively new database engine, created following the NoSQL key-value data storage principle.

This approach allows the CockroachDB engine to be easily (horizontally) scaled while developers can have a high level of control over the data's structure and its availability.

The database engine also supports distributed transactions, a simplified method for initializing and joining clusters, and delivers a simple REST API for interactions.

Range splitting and gossip networks are also supported, with upcoming assistance for rebalancing and raft consensus.
