Cayley is in the same realm as other database engines like Agamemnon, ArangoDB, OrientDB, Titan, Neo4J, and Twitter's Flock.

They all use basic graph structures to store data and access it using a classic key-store system, making them all NoSQL databases.

The difference between Cayley and the aforementioned solutions is its better cross-platform appeal, also providing Windows support (which is not that common), and above all the language it's built in: Google's very own Go.

Cayley also provides LevelDB and MongoDB integration, along with support for multiple query languages like MQL and raw JavaScript.

On top of this you can add a very easy to use programmatic RESTful API, a built-in query editor and query visualizer, and a modular architecture which lets programmers easily turn features on/off, or even expand the core with new ones.

And since this is a Google product, you can also rest assured it has been well tested, documented, and also used in live production environments. Cayley specifically has been used with the Freebase service and Google's very own Knowledge Graph.
