Spring Data is basically a database abstraction layer for the Spring Framework, but one that covers a lot of angles and technologies, on both sides of the SQL world: NoSQL and relational databases.
Spring Data is made up from a bunch of smaller modules which developers can use to tie in their Spring-based Java applications and websites to their desired data storage technology.
Developers can use just one of Spring Data's modules, or they can go all-in and use them all. There's no restriction and no conflicting code in the project to prevent these kind of scenarios.
The modules and supported technologies:
Spring Data JPA
Spring Data MongoDB
Spring Data Neo4J
Spring Data Gemfire
Spring Data Redis
Spring Data Hadoop
Spring Data JDBC
Spring Data REST
Spring Data Couchbase
Spring Data DynamoDB
Spring Data Cassandra
Spring Data CouchDB
Spring Data ElasticSearch
Spring Data Solr
Spring Data Commons
Spring Data KeyValue
Spring Data Graph
Spring Data Services
