Apache JDO is a Java API that provides easy & well documented methods for storing, accessing and manipulating persistent data.
This kind of data is stored using classic POJOs (simple Java objects) and will allow developers to store some of their applications' persistent information in a local or remote database until their app's processing operation end in full.
While this can also be achieved using JDBC, JPA, and even some custom Java-based ORMs, the Apache JDO project provides some extra features for these kind of operations.
First it gives developers a truly free choice of data stores, it also comes with out-of the-box call implementations, and also a comprehensive ORM-like structure and schema creation utility.
Apache JDO has seen quite a good level of adoption between Java projects, being used in apps and services like DataNucleus, JPOX, Kodo, OrientDB, Speedo, and many other more.
