Deskzilla Free Edition

As its name suggests, Deskzilla Free Edition is a free version of the commercial and cross-platform Deskzilla graphical software implemented in Java and designed from the ground up to enable users to interact better with the bugs registered in the Bugzilla bug tracking system.

In other words, Deskzilla is a Bugzilla desktop client, that lets users to easily connect to a working Bugzilla system. It provides an interactive GUI (Graphical User Interface) front-end that features unique functionality.

Features at a glance

Key features include a hierarchical project structure, support for nested queries, an issue counter, a local database, threaded comments view, an offline mode, a time tracker component, customizable bug triage, support for custom workspaces, as well as a screenshot utility.

The user interface looks the same on all supported operating systems. It comprises of the main view area where you can interact with the submitted bugs from the respective Bugzilla bug tracker system, and a sidebar, so you can easily manage connections.

The GUI includes numerous features, such as the ability to download all the details and attachments of the bugs, discard changes, view synchronization problems, create new queries and edit existing ones, create top-level copies, search for bugs, as well as to create and edit distribution.

In addition, it is possible to run a query, view cached query result, reload query from server, open a query in your web browser, stop queries, sort nested nodes, reload Bugzilla configuration, view recent bugs, and configure HTTP proxy for the all connections.

Supported operating systems

Being written entirely in the Java programming language, the application supports any operating system where the Java Runtime Environment is available, including GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. It has been successfully tested on computers supporting either of the 32-bit or 64-bit hardware architectures.

What is new in this release:

• Starting with this release, Deskzilla is signed for OS X GateKeeper; that solves the installation problems when OS X told the user that the package was corrupt or unsigned.
• Deskzilla now supports Apple Retina displays.

• Support for Bugzilla 3.2, including custom workflow and custom field types.
