When you are researching on the Internet, anything that makes the job easier is welcome. At first glance, Wired-Marker seems like a simple little tool, but on further inspection it actually reveals itself to be far more comprehensive program.
Wired-Marker is a Firefox add-on that - at its most basic level - allows you to highlight online text permanently, even after closing the browser. Once installed, you'll see Wired-Marker functions appear in the right-click context menu and as an extra drop down menu in the toolbar, beside Bookmarks, Tools, etc. The basic highlight function is enabled by highlighting the desired area as normal and right-clicking to reveal the Wired-Marker menu. You then pick one of the tool's multiple-colored highlights, and voila - your text is highlighted!
Once that's done, you can add a note to the text or remove it, or manage all of your highlights by opening the Wired-Marker menu in the sidebar. From here you can drag and drop into new folders, open individual links in new tabs or manage the folders. There's a dictionary function, filter and search features for when you have lots of highlights and the ability to save and access your work offline.
That's not where Wired-Marker's talents end, but unfortunately, it is where they cease to be easily accessible. A lot of the add-on's options are virtually indecipherable from just the name ("Output with the tag...", for example), and the online help is difficult to understand. This is a pity, because I'm sure that these hidden functions would turn Wired-Marker from a good tool into a great one.
Wired-Marker is an essential tool for researchers, even if some options are a mystery.

- Due to the addition of shortcut key function, it is now possible to put marker quickly.
- Also, with the auto-cache function, the marked page will be automatically saved, so even if the original page is deleted, the marker information will be retained.
