Bitnami phpBB Stack

Bitnami phpBB Stack is a free and multi-platform software project that delivers an easy-to-install and easy-to-use distribution of the phpBB forum software, as well as all of its runtime dependencies, such as the Apache web server, MySQL database and PHP.

What is phpBB?

phpBB is an open source web-based bulletin board application that features a powerful permission systems, private messaging, a customizable template and language system, support for multiple databases, and search functions.

Installing Bitnami phpBB Stack

Bitnami’s phpBB native installers were packaged using BitRock's cross-platform installer tool. The product is supported on all GNU/Linux distributions, as well as on the Microsoft Windows and Apple’s Mac OS X operating systems.

To install phpBB on a desktop computer or laptop, just download the package that corresponds to your computer’s hardware architecture, run it and follow the instructions displayed on the screen. Both 32-bti and 64-bit instruction set architectures are supported at this time.

Run phpBB on the cloud

Thanks to Bitnami, users are now able to run their own phpBB Stack server on the cloud with their hosting platform or by using a pre-built cloud image for the Amazon EC2 and Windows Azure cloud hosting providers.

Virtualize phpBB or use the Docker container

In addition to installing phpBB on your personal computer or run it on the cloud, it is also possible to use it inside a preconfigure virtual appliance, thanks to the VirtualBox- and VMware-compatible virtual machine image based on the latest version of the Ubuntu Linux operating system.

The Bitnami phpBB Module

Besides the Bitnami phpBB Stack product reviewed here, Bitnami also offers a module for its LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) server, allowing users to deploy the phpBB software without installing its runtime dependencies. As expected, Bitnami phpBB Module is available for download on Softoware, free of charge.
