bashup is a shell script for backing up data on remote hosts. The project has minimal requirements and features sophisticated reporting and rotation functions.

It provides you with tasks for backing up directories, mysql, postgresql, oracle and subversion data, compressing them with gzip or bzip2, sending them via ftp, rsync, scp or Amazon S3, and even rotating them through this methods. It also features an extensible error reporting mechanism.

Installation:

Installing Bashup is quite easy:

1. Retrieve the latest Bashup version tarball.

2. Untar it by running "tar xjf bashup-*.tar.bz2" or "tar xzf bashup-*.tar.gz".

3. You are done! Bashup should run from any directory you move it to. Just keep in mind, that it depends on the bashup library "bashup_common.sh" which should stay in the same directory as "bashup".

What is new in this release:

  • Version 0.3 ships with support for non standard Postgres ports and an increased error checking for file rotation.

What is new in version 0.2:

  • Version 0.2 brings you advanced ssh handling and introduces lzma as an additional compression filter (please note that various tests showed the advantage of lzma over gzip and bzip2 in speed and compression ratio).
