YaRock

YaRock is an open source piece of software that provides users with a complex, fully functional and advanced audio playback application inspired by the well known Amarok music player and organizer program for the KDE desktop environment.

Features at a glance

Key features include a clean, beautiful and simple music collection database backed by SQLite3, ability to browse your local music collection based only on album art, ability to filter and share your music collection, and Last.fm scrobbler.

In addition, it lets users to play music file straight from the collection or using a simple and straightforward play queue, generate smart playlists, as well as painless management of favorite albums and artists.

Another interesting features is the ability to support MP3Gain tag for volume normalization across your entire music collection. In addition, the program can automatically download cover art, and offers command-line and MPRIS interfaces.

Supports a wide range of audio file formats

The application supports a wide range of audio file formats, depending on the Phonon backend used (GStreamer or VLC), including MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, WAV, and many others.

Supported playlists include M3U, PLS and XSPF, which can be easily loaded into the application from various other media players. It can also supports playback of radio streams in the Shoutcast, Dirble, or Tunin formats.

Under the hood and supported desktop environments

Under the hood, we can report that the application has been written entirely in the C++ programming language and uses the Qt GUI toolkit for its clean and simple graphical user interface.

The good news is that it does not depend on a specific open source desktop environment, which means that it can be used on GNOME, Xfce, KDE, LXDE, Cinnamon or MATE, as long as all requirements are met.

In conclusion, YaRock is a decent and modern audio player application that supports only the GNU/Linux platform. It can be easily installed from the default software channels of your Linux-based operating system.
