XBoard is an open source graphical chess board software crafted to serve as a user interface for GNU Chess, Crafty, or any other chess engines, as well as Internet chess servers.
XBoard can also be used by itself to read and write game files in PGN (portable game notation) format. You can build it on most Linux systems with the following commands:
./configure
make
