X Tile is an applet for the GNOME desktop, written in Python and PyGTK, which allows to deploy the checked windows on the desktop in the chosen way.

X-tile allows you to tile a number of windows either in columns or rows as well as other functions such as minimize, maximize and even closing.

It is provided as a convenient gnome panel application so with a minimum of fuss you can have windows next to each other ready to compare their contents for example.

The applet is implemented by Giuseppe Penone and Chris Camacho.
