By default, the first video link on a page is scanned and his image is used by the Video Thumbnails plugin.
Besides using the video's thumbnail photo as a featured image, the plugin can additionally download and save the preview to the site's local Media Library.
The plugin can work with normal blog posts, static pages or both.
If you know your way around the WordPress system, Video Thumbnails also provides a basic PHP function to work with in your themes and plugins, and also provides a way to save video thumbnails to a custom field if necessary.
Installation:
Unpack and upload it to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory.
Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' menu in WordPress.
