The TRT is a form of attentional retraining, it is designed to help you become aware of PINs (Pre-Incident Indicators). Awareness of PINs will help you prevent violent encounters. First, try the TRT with a display time of 3 seconds: this means you will see a photo for 3 seconds, and then make a threat assessment. Your assessment has 4 possible levels: Yellow, Orange, Red, and Black.

Yellow means general awareness: nothing is going on, and you will go about your business. Orange means something is not right, and you will give yourself some time to make a better assessment of the situation. Red means you have perceived a threat, and action is required: you will try to walk away or de-escalate. Black means imminent danger, no time to talk your way out of it: either attack with a pre-emptive strike, or run away.

When you start recognising more and more PINs, then it is time to move on to a shorter display time: 1 second, or even less. Eventually, the display time will be so short that you will have to trust your gut feeling (instead of conscious thought) to make a correct threat assessment. When you reach this phase, the TRT has succeeded its goal. Note that threat assessment is very much dependant on context. Therefore it is okay to disagree with the threat assessments in this software. The important part is that you will correctly recognise Pre-Incident Indicators.
