SmartSynchronize

SmartSynchronize is a commercial, free for non-commercial use and multiplatform graphical software that allows you to easily and quickly compare and merge files, as well as to synchronize directories, from the comfort of your GNU/Linux operating system.

Features at a glance

The application is very easy to use and allows users to compare file while giving them the possibility to merge and edit the files, compare files with automatic detection of inner-line changes, compare folders while they synchronize the changes in real-time, configure ignored files and folders, as well as the to store and reopen profiles.

Getting started with SmartSynchronize

To use the program, the user must download the latest version from Softoware, save the tar.gz archive on a location of his/her choice, unpack it, make sure that you have the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed and attempt to start the application by double clicking it.

Please note that the binary files are located in the /bin subdirectory inside the main archive, in the sh file format. There, you should double-click the “smartsynchronize.sh” file and choose the ‘Run’ option if asked.

You will have to understand and agree to all terms and conditions of the license agreement, as well as to choose if you want to use the software for 30 days, for non-commercial purposes, or to purchase a license.

As mentioned, its graphical user interface is quite simple and straightforward. To compare files or directories, you must select two files/folders and click the ‘Start’ button. There’s also a 3-way merge functionality implemented into the app.

Written in Java, supports all mainstream operating systems

Being written in the Java programming language, SmartSynchronize is a platform-independent application that supports GNU/Linux, OS/2, BSD, Solaris, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. It has been successfully tested with both 32-bit and 64-bit instruction set architectures.

• The license has changed: SmartSynchronize is now free for non-commercial use.
• Further, technical changes: requires Java 1.5 (or newer).
• This release has the ability to use non-fixed-width fonts.
• It fixes several GUI problems, especially with OS X.
• It adds Find and Replace, improves Find, and adds options to ignore case changes and disable linked scrolling.

What is new in version 3.1.6:

• This release concentrates on improving the Mac OS X 10.6 look and fixing a few bugs.
