SidewinderPhotoColourBalancer is a multiplatform and freely distributed software project implemented in the Java programming language and designed from the offset to be used as a basic photo editor for 24 bit color images. To work as expected, the application makes use of a backup array of the original image numerics.

Features at a glance

Key features include support for editing a wide variety of 24 bit images, including JPG, JPEG, PNG and BMP, support for manually color balancing of individual color RGB, as well as bright and dark by 16 band set filters, support for resizing images, support for preserving of EXIF data of JPG and JPEG photos taken from a digital camera, and thumbnail creation of JPG/JPEG images.

In addition, the software features exposure and contrast correction of mid-tones and gamma, image cropping functionality by using numeric text field settings or the mouse, support for writing text on images, support for converting 24 bit color RGB images to black and white 24 bit RGB photos (JPEG, PNG and BMP only), support for rotating images at 90 (CW or CCW) degrees, as well as support for flipping and mirroring images at 180 degrees.

When compared with similar products, we can immediately notice that SidewinderPhotoColourBalancer’s built-in dark and brightness balancer control system makes use of an accurate algorithm, instead of "linear numeric addition." Users will also be able to quickly color balance images by visual examples. Comprehensive documentation and HOW-TOs are provided on the project’s homepage.

Under the hood, availability and supported operating systems

Being written entirely in the Java programming language, SidewinderPhotoColourBalancer is a platform-independent application that is should run on any operating system where the Java runtime environment is installed. It is distributed as pre-built binary packages for GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems, and it’s compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms.

Requirements:

  • Java 2 Standard Edition Runtime Environment
