Everyone that has ever worked with a WordPress-powered site knows what a shortcode is. The term is so popular and so widely used that almost all plugin developers these days feel the need to provide shortcode support as much as they do for sidebar widgets and template tags.
shortcode.js was created to mimic the behavior of a WordPress shortcode, but without the WordPress dependency.
shortcode.js is coded in CoffeeScript and outputs as a jQuery plugin that is capable of reading shortcode-like tags and replacing them with predefined HTML tags.
The plugin can handle simple HTML tag replacements or even more complex HTML structures, complex enough to run widgets, image galleries or news tickers.
A shortcode.js demo is included with the download package, showing developers how to create, setup and embed their own custom shortcodes in a live HTML page.
