Sabayon Linux LXQt is a special edition of the Gentoo-based open source operating system named Sabayon Linux, built around the lightweight LXQt desktop environment.

It’s available for download as a 64-bit Live CD

Originally, the LXQt edition of Sabayon Linux was distributed as a Live CD ISO image supporting only 64-bit hardware platforms. As the project has been discontinued, it can only be downloaded as a Live CD that contains software packages optimized for the 64-bit architecture.

How to use the ISO image

In order to boot the operating system from the BIOS of a computer, the user must write the ISO image on a CD disc or a USB thumb drive of 1GB or higher capacity, which will be called a bootable medium. Then, insert it on a CD/DVD-ROM device or a USB port respectively.

LXQt is in charge of the graphical desktop environment

As mentioned, this Sabayon Linux edition has been built around LXQt an open source project that provides a low on resources graphical interface for users who want to have a modern and fast operating system on a slow computer.

LXQt uses a traditional layout comprised of a single panel (taskbar) located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where you can navigate the main menu, launch applications, cycle between virtual workspaces and interact with running programs.

Contains a carefully selected blend of software

While the distribution is not full on applications, it contains a carefully selected blend of software. Among some of the most important ones, we can mention the Mozilla Firefox web browser, Claws Mail email client, XChat IRC client, and many others.

It’s perfect for old computers

All things considered, Sabayon Linux LXQt is a very fast and feature rich operating system based on two of the best open source projects: Gentoo and LXQt. If you’re looking to transform your old computer into a modern workstation, do not hesitate to try out the LXQt edition of Sabayon Linux.
