ROSA Desktop Fresh GNOME is a distribution of Linux, a special edition of the ROSA Desktop Fresh operating system that uses the modern GNOME desktop environment and a collection of free and open source applications. It is derived from the Mandriva Linux operating system.

Distributed as 32-bit and 64-bit Live DVDs

The GNOME edition of ROSA Desktop Fresh can be downloaded from via Softoware or from the project’s homepage (see link above) as two Live DVD ISO images of approximately 1.5GB in size each, designed for the 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms.

Boot options

The boot menu of the Live DVDs is identical with the one used in other ROSA Desktop Fresh editions, designed to allow the user to start the live environment, boot an existing operating system from the first disk, permanently install the distribution on a local drive using default options or the safe graphics mode, perform a RAM diagnostic test and recover a broken bootloader.

Modern desktop environment powered by GNOME

Before you can access the modern desktop environment powered by GNOME, it is a must to choose a language to use, accept a license agreement, set up date, clock and timezone settings, and select a keyboard layout.

The GNOME desktop has been highly customized with a beautiful theme and a visible dock (application launcher) on the left side of the screen, allowing the user to quickly launch his/her favorite apps.

Modern open source applications

The modern GNOME desktop environment is accompanied by a great set of modern open source applications, among which we can mention the Mozilla Firefox web browser, Evolution email and calendar client, Empathy multi-protocol instant messenger, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, LibreOffice Writer, as well as Nautilus file manager.

Bottom line

Without no doubt this is one of the best editions of the ROSA Desktop Fresh Linux distribution, as it features a beautified GNOME desktop environment and just the right applications.

What is new in this release:
