PostgreSQL Workload Analyzer (or just PoWA) comes with two parts:
- the PostgreSQL extension that tracks the database activity (written in C)
- the Web interface for presenting this data (written in Perl)
To use PoWA, both parts are needed. You can install the Web interface in one place, and the PostgreSQL extension on any database you want to track.
PostgreSQL Workload Analyzer will start collecting database activity data and log it in (another) PostgreSQL database.
This data is then displayed in its Web interface using activity graphs that work and show data in real-time, as it's being collected.
PoWA is essential for tracking database traffic, monitoring the most used queries and data blocks, and also detecting problematic queries.
Installation instructions are provided with the package's README file.
